Is a body builder oriented diet plan created by Bill Phillips. This diet encourages supplements, shakes, bars and some pricey other items. It also maintains the idea of a 6 day exercise program including 20 minutes of cardio or aerobic for 3 times a week the rest is weight training. The actual diet part is kind of general based on lean meats, low fats and quality carbohydrates along with a lot of vegetables that are on what is called a good list to choose from. The unique feature of this diet plan is that 6 days you are on a diet and one day you are off to eat whatever you want for that day and then back on for 6 days again.
Burn the Fat
This is the number one diet on the internet and is a best seller. The author Tom Venuto is a well respected fitness expert. He emphasis on losing fat as opposed to losing weight. His focus is fat loss. He clarifies the fact from fiction in the loss of fat and makes it possible for anyone to lose the fat. The ebook sells for $39.95 and is highly recommended.
The Carb Addicts Diet
This diet was created by Rachael and Richard Heller for those of us who have an addiction to carbs. This diet says if you can control your addiction you can lose weight. This is another Low carb high fat and protein diet not recommended by health organizations. Basically for breakfast and lunch you eat no carbs at all. Dinner is considered the reward meal where you have 1/3 protein, 1/3 carbs. and 1/3 non starchy vegetables. You can eat for one hour and if you choose to have seconds or thirds you have to have the whole 1/3 proteins, carbs and veggies not just carbs.
Jenny Craig
As you see on the Television Jenny Craig is a complete diet program that offers counseling and other tools to help you be successful with your weight loss. The program includes eating Jenny foods, meeting with your counselor once a week and supplementing the food with fruits, vegetables, dairy and whole grains. They also encourage you to take their vitamin supplements. Jenny Craig even has exercise tapes. I did Jenny for a while I did lose weight but I was hungry and the visits got on my nerves. Jenny also becomes very expensive to keep purchasing their products
LA Weight Loss
Expect to pay a minimum of approx. $320 dollars a year. It is true that the weekly cost is 6 to 7 dollars and you use your own food. They sell extra supplements and products to aid in your weight loss and this is where the cost comes in. They come out to about 27 dollars a week on top of the other weekly fee. The LA weight loss program jump starts your weight loss with a 3 day eat an orange and greens diet and then gradually add calories back. They put you back on a severely restricted caloric diet. They also promote their juice which is basically a two to 3 day fast with almost no food periodically.
Makers Diet
Is an interesting diet written by Jordan S Rubin which is grounded on biblical teachings. The Makers Diet is based on consuming organic foods. The diet is broken down into three two week phases. The first week prohibits regular dairy, all carbs, many fats and oils and tap water. As the weeks progress the diet becomes less restrictive. There are certain controversial foods associated with the diet like using extra virgin coconut oil which is 90% saturated fat, which is claimed to be healthier on this diet. This diet also changes life style habits such as being aware of antiperspirants, fluoride toothpaste, daily showers, cell phones and contact lenses. Long distance walks and daily prayer is also encouraged. On this diet only unrefined foods that use no pesticides or processes can be eaten. There is also are requirement that the dieters on this diet by supplements as part of their dietary regimen.
The Mayo Diet
The internet diet is not the same as the Mayo Clinic. The internet diets have not been endorsed by the Mayo Clinic which is government endorsed as a part of its healthy diet guidelines. The internet diet uses high protein, low carbs and eating a grapefruit after each meal.
The Mayo Clinic does not endorse the online diets with their name and said they can be dangerous in the long run but who know they may also feel like they are losing clients from the online ones.
Nutrisystem
is another alternative diet program similar to Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers but now has included online management. Nutrisystem is based on prepackaged foods that you buy. The foods are based on 60% carbs, 20% protein and 20% fat. The cost of the foods and the other tools run approximately $68.74 a week that includes food for one week, once a week counseling, online nutrition classes, member newsletter and online bulletin board and chat room. The food is delivered to your door between 3 to five days after purchase. When you get close to your goal you start to prepare your own meals under their guidance. I tried this a few years back and got an allergic reaction to the food, I heard the food is better now.
Scarsdale Diet
was written in the 70’s By Dr. Herman Tarnower. Its based on a minimum amount of calories of which 43% is protein, 22 % is fat and 34.5% is carbs. On this diet your caloric intake is 1000 calories for two weeks and then it goes into what is called the keep trim program. The keep trim program allows more calories and a large number of the banned foods on this diet. You lose weight but it isn’t recommended for it nutritive or health values.
Slimfast Diet
Is a diet based on Slimfast shakes and bars as meal replacements with one meal a day based on 1200 calories. I did this one and do it periodically now. I used it with weight watchers and it worked along with exercise.
The South Beach Diet
was written by Dr. Author Agaston, Director of Mount Sinai Cardiac Prevention Center in Miami Beach, Florida. This diet is based on 3 phases. Phase one lasts 14 days. This is the strictest part of the program. In this phase you eat 3 balanced meals a day. The idea is not to feel hungry. You are allowed to eat normal sized portions of lean meats like chicken turkey or fish and shell fish. Vegetables are allowed so are nuts eggs and cheese. Expected weight loss for phase one is 8 to 13 pounds. Then you move on to the second phase which lasts until you reach your goal…This is like the first phase but this time includes some of the banned foods and you can eat from all food groups. During this phase you lose up to two pounds a week. Phase 3 is weight maintenance where you can eat a more liberal version of the diet.
Although this is a balanced diet because of the large protein factor it is advisable to speak to a health professional to see if this is the right one for you.
Weight Watchers
was founded in the 1960’s Jean Nidetch. It is a diet that is worldwide in popularity. Its based on caloric reduction and a point system. No foods are restricted but based on the caloric equivalent of points allowed per day. The members usually meet weekly where they weigh in and discuss and exchange information to help make their diet a success. It also offers an online program now as well. You can expect to lose up to two pounds a week. The online program is approximately 44 dollars monthly. The meetings can run more at 10 to 15 per meeting plus joining fee. Weight watchers also has a whole line of frozen foods in the supermarkets.
